Compliance Issues Persist for Manufacturers under Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act due to SCOTUS Ruling

SOMERSET, N.J. – July 11, 2012– Alliance Life Sciences Consulting Group (ALSCG), a leading management and technology consultancy, announced today the importance of life sciences industry participants to act upon provisions solidified by the Supreme Court’s ruling, and the need for renewed focus on meeting new challenges related to operational overhauls.

“The Court’s ruling reinforces the usual compliance issues for life sciences manufacturers,” says Jim Burke, Senior Vice President of Contracting and Pricing Solutions. “The new provisions related to operational overhauls all remain in effect, as was the case before the ruling. The Court’s decision did clear up uncertainty surrounding the law, which is a breath of fresh air in one aspect. However, now is the time for life science manufacturers to fully focus their attention on compliance in the key areas of their business.”

To avoid risk and ensure compliance, ALSCG recommends that manufacturers:
·  Review and reevaluate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
·  Evaluate current business processes to maximize efficiency and efficacy
·  Reexamine the go-forward strategies for both business and system compliance

“Now that PPACA is law, manufacturers need to be proactive about their approach to compliance in order to minimize risk,” Burke adds, “Legislative and regulatory change entails reductions in reimbursement and margins, so manufacturers will now need to leverage their compliance infrastructure to maintain sales volume, profitability and competitive advantage. Additional efficiencies in data driven analytics enables better real-time quantitative decision-making.”
