The Allergy Experiment: Does Apple Cider Vinegar Cure All?

Like most allergy sufferers, I dread springtime. I’ve been on allergy medication year-round since childhood, battling reactions to trees, grass (there are four types and I’m allergic to them all!), pollen, dust mites, dogs, cats, raw fruit and vegetables, soy, honey… the list goes on but I won’t. Once April hits and pollen counts soar, my body seems to become immune to all meds. I’ve tried everything under the sun and nothing seems to stop the allergy induced fevers, sneezing or itching eyes.

This year, in addition to my daily dose of the generic version of Claritan-D, I’m armed with a holistic approach – BRAGG’s Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar.

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) has been hailed for centuries as a natural remedy for allergies (including pet, food and environmental), sinus infections, acne, high cholesterol, flu, chronic fatigue, candida, acid reflux, sore throats, migraines, contact dermatitis and arthritis. Even Hippocrates, Father of Medicine, consumed ACV for its numerous health benefits.

It’s been said that when ACV is taken at the first sign of an allergy, one can completely stop the histamine response. Much of this can be attributed to its high potassium level.

I’m hoping the addition of ACV in my system will lesson the severity of my springtime allergies. It has already worked wonders for my sensitive, breakout-prone skin.

Suggested by my esthetician, Ena at Thomas Alexander Salon and Spa, I’ve been drinking ACV first thing every morning for the past eight months and using it twice a day as a toner. Ever since, I’ve had a flawless face.

The recipe is as follows:

-Mix equal parts distilled water and Bragg’s Raw Organic Apple Cider Vinegar (one table spoon each) in a glass (never use a plastic cup).

-Drink a shot first thing in the morning before you put anything in your stomach. This can be repeated up to three times a day.

-Be sure to sip slowly, as the ACV will burn as you swallow. If the taste is too harsh, add honey or molasses to sweeten.

-Drink plenty of water.

IMPORTANT: Use only raw, organic vinegar. Never use dead, distilled vinegar because the natural enzymes, minerals, and nutrients are destroyed in the distilling process. Any vinegar that is clear and has no “mother” (the strand-like substance in the bottom of the bottle) has no nutritional value.

    Did the ACV worked for your allergies? I am suffering with miserable allergies, I been reading a lot about this treatment.

      Hi there. It’s making a world of difference. I still take allergy medicine as always, but I am not in any way miserable like I have been every other spring. I hardly ever sneeze! And I can go outside and walk my dogs without a problem. I just take a shot of ACV before I walk out the door and the histamine response kicks into action. I highly recommend. Allergy season is pretty much non-existent for me right now. I never thought this day would come.
